Weekly Helpful Hint

This week’s Help Hint comes from Dan Obergfell:

A loss of NovaPACS user preferences for a radiologist can cause a lot of headaches with resetting menu options, buttons, and hanging protocols; but the situation can be easily remedied with a little bit of prevention.

On a monthly basis:

  1. Plug a USB drive (thumb drive) into the radiologist’s reading station.

  2. Log into the NovaPACS Diagnostic Viewer as the radiologist.

  3. From the menu bar of the Study Browser, select Settings | Preferences | Export Preferences

  4. Browse to the USB drive (most likely E: in My Computer)

  5. Save the file with a descriptive name (recommended to contain the user name and the current date, Example: John Smith 12-21-2012 )

  6. Remove the USB drive from the machine (make sure you stop the device first in the task tray on the Windows Task Bar first)

If NovaPACS preferences are ever lost for that user:

  1. Plug a USB drive (thumb drive) into the radiologist’s reading station.

  2. Log into the NovaPACS Diagnostic Viewer as the radiologist.

  3. From the menu bar of the Study Browser, select Settings | Preferences | Import Preferences

  4. Browse to the USB drive (most likely E: in My Computer)

  5. Find the most recent saved file for the user for which you are restoring preferences, select it and click Open.

  6. Remove the USB drive from the machine (make sure you stop the device first in the task tray on the Windows Task Bar first)
