People always seem to be looking for the next big thing. Telehealth just might be the next big thing in healthcare. Especially among parents with children 18 and under, because–let’s be honest–no one wants to take a toddler to a walk-in clinic or other medical office where germs are running rampant and unchecked.

Telehealth is over-the-air healthcare. Patients can use the internet and even sometimes their mobile device to talk to their primary care provider (PCP) for almost anything from chronic conditions to post-discharge follow up to “Does this look infected?” calls.

Mental health is another aspect that stands to gain from telehealth, a lot of times being in the physical presence of a therapist or psychiatrist can be intimidating and anxiety inducing. Telehealth can help anxious patients feel more comfortable with their doctor.
Why stop with me?
Telehealth isn’t only for yourself, 79% of consumers say that a multi-way video telehealth service with someone they are caring for would be helpful. 74% of parents of children under 18 years old say that they would be interested in seeing their PCP through telehealth. The downside would be it might be harder for the toddlers to sit still while their toys are all around them. Other than that, it’s hard to think of a downside!
I like it. Telehealth has a lot of potential to increase the value of healthcare for both patient and doctors, allowing both more freedom with each other to be more available and flexible while not compromising any quality.
