Nova3D+ advanced visualization receives FDA clearance

Good news, everyone!

Our latest advancement in image processing, Nova3D+, was just cleared by the FDA for diagnostic purposes.

Nova3D+ is our advanced visualization software. It provides users with high-resolution, 3D images of the body. It also enables a completely virtual, non-invasive colonoscopy—which is fascinating (more on that later). It doesn’t force you to switch workstations and it fits in with the rest of our software, too.

In a 2011 interview with Health Imaging, Myron A. Pozniak, MD, professor of abdominal imaging at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health said, “We can add words to images, but there is nothing better than a well-rendered 3D reconstruction. An image may be worth a thousand words but a good 3D rendering is worth a thousand images.”Needless to say, we’re excited for people to see it in action. Advanced visualization has become an essential in the radiologist toolkit, but it hasn’t always been convenient or even attainable.

The key inspiration behind Nova3D+ is how inconvenient it can sometimes be to get that 3D rendering. Many 3D visualization systems have to use expensive custom hardware, and still don’t deliver top image quality or speed. They have a different user interface and often a separate workstation.

We’re trying not to over-complicate advanced visualization.

Our software doesn’t use an external CPU for image rendering. It renders locally by taking advantage of your computer’s graphics processing unit (GPU) instead of the CPU, like other systems do. The GPU is inexpensive and can actually process images up to 1,500 times faster than a CPU (Chen, 2010).

Our virtual colonoscopy (pictured left) includes a patent-pending panoramic view which eliminates blind spots, meaning you can see the whole colon. Users can more accurately mark and measure polyps or “questionable” areas with advanced lighting and shading tools. The virtual colonoscopy also comes with automatic flight path mapping, allowing you to fly virtually through the colon.

We also don’t force you to switch workstations.
